WOMEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Boston College Eagles' Gaby Carreiro
Sophomore midfielder Gaby Carreiro has picked up her passing where she left off last season. Carreiro sparked Boston College’s offense, providing three assists, as the Eagles opened the season with a 4-1 win over Providence and a 1-1 tie with Arizona State.
Carreiro, the New England Soccer News Women's Player of the Week for the week ending Aug. 21, ignited the BC attack as the Eagles rallied from a halftime deficit at Providence Friday and provided the deciding assist against the Sun Devils Sunday. Carreiro crossed for Jenna Bike for BC’s first goal of the season, then helped set up Kayla Jennings for the go-ahead goal early in the second half against the Friars. The Eagles fell behind in the opening half against Arizona State, before Carreiro set up Lauren Berman for a 60th-minute volley.
Last season, Carreiro, who has participated in U.S. U-20 national team camps, had two goals and five assists.
