Meehan leads BC Eagles past Stony Brook
NEWTON, Mass. -- McKenzie Meehan scored two goals and Olivia Vaughn scored one to lead Boston College past non-conference foe Stony Brook, 3-0, before a 763 crowd at the Newton Soccer Field Thursday night.
Meehan upped her a career totals to 48 goals and 16 game-winning goals, tied with Brooke Knowlton for the all-time BC (2-0-1) lead.
Meehan cut through the middle of the penalty area and one-timed a cross from freshman Jenna Bike for her first goal of the season in the eighth minute, then dribbled past defenders to finish past Shannon Robinson for the second goal in the 15th minute.
Early in the second half, Stony Brook's Raven Edwards touched past Erin Seppi, freshman defender Samantha Hiatt clearing before Edwards could recover.
In the 70th minute, Vaughn ran onto a long ball down the line from Allyson Swaby, ripping a right-footer from 22 yards to Robinson’s left for her first career goal.
"I was really pleased with the energy to start the game,” BC coach Alison Foley said. “We had three quality goals and credit to Stony Brook's goalkeeper for making some big time saves. We've had a lot of players working really hard and it was nice to reward them with some playing time.''
Seppi had four saves in her first career start. The Eagles had 12 shots on goal, Stony Brook (0-2-1) four. Meehan took six shots, Hayley Dowd four shots.
