BC women hammer Harvard

NEWTON, Mass. -- McKenzie Meehan continued her scoring streak as the Boston College womenís team took a 3-0 win over Harvard in a non-conference match at the Newton Soccer Field Wednesday night.

Meehan, who has scored in five successive games, upped her total to six goals this season and broke the BC record for career game-winner goals with her 17th, one better than Brooke Knowlton.

Harvard threatened as Margaret Purce went in alone on a through ball, Alexis Bryant making the stop in the 24th minute. Junior Lauren Berman then provided a long ball for Meehan to finish as BC (6-0-1), which won for the fourth successive game, took the lead in the 27th minute, Bermanís third assist of the season.

In the 30th minute, freshman Olivia Vaughn finished a Madison Kenny long ball for a 2-0 lead. Harvard had a chance late in the half, Karly Zlaticís attempt off a Purce cross blocked by Samantha Hiatt.

In the 65th minute, Berman scored her third goal of the season, chesting in a cross from Hayley Dowd, the sequence started with Meehan springing Dowd on the sideline. In the 72nd minute, Bryant saved a Zlatic penalty kick after Zlatic had been felled.
