WOMEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BC Eagles forward McKenzie Meehan
McKenzie Meehan has been rewriting the Boston College record book since last season. Meehan made a spectacular recovery from an Achilles tendon injury to score 17 goals as a redshirt junior, and is on pace to surpass her career-high 20-goal total as a graduate student this year.
Meehan, the New England Soccer News Women's Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 12, converted her sixth and seventh goals of the season as BC improved to 7-0-1 with its fifth and sixth successive wins, over Harvard (3-0) and Northeastern (2-1 in overtime). Meehan scored the decider in both matches, upping her total to 18 career game-winning goals, breaking the record of 16 set by Brooke Knowlton. Meehan, who broke Kristie Mewis’ career goal total, now has 54 goals in 68 collegiate games.
The Eagles, off to their best start since 2010, when they advanced to the NCAA College Cup Final Four, made a dramatic comeback against Northeastern, Andrea O’Brien scoring the tying goal in the 90th minute and Mewis heading in the go-ahead goal off a Jenna Bike free kick in the 102nd minute.
