BC women upset Florida State
NEWTON, Mass. -- The Boston College women’s team upset No. 2-ranked Florida State, 2-1, in an Atlantic Coast Conference match at the Newton Campus Field Thursday night.
Junior Lauren Berman (16th minute) and senior Hayley Dowd (51st) scored for the Eagles (10-3-1 overall, 2-3-0 ACC), who defeated the Seminoles (9-2-1, 3-1-1) for the first time since Oct. 18, 2012.
Sophomore Dallas Dorosy converted off a Kaycie Tillman-Kristen McFarland combination in the 25th minute for FSU.
Dowd scored her fourth game-winning goal of the season and 14th game-winner of her career as the Eagles became the first team to score more than once against the Seminoles, who have totaled nine shutouts this season.
"We had some good looks at goal,” BC coach Alison Foley said. “I said it at the beginning of the year our attack is one of the best in the country. And I think they can score against anyone in the country.
"Our back line saw a lot of different ways that Florida State came at us. We handled the balls over the top really well. And then they tried to build through the midfield and our back line kept everything so compact that there weren't any seems in our back four. Individually they defended really well in the individual battles. Collectively I thought they were amazing.''
