NEWTON, Mass. -- The Boston College women’s team surrendered a 109th-minute goal in falling, 3-2, in extra time to Virginia Tech in an ACC match at the Newton Campus Field Sunday.
The Eagles (10-4-1 overall, 2-4-0 ACC) rallied after a 29th-minute Alani Johnson goal gave Virginia Tech (10-4-1, 2-3-1) the lead, scoring on two penalty kicks in the 62nd minute.
Olivia Vaughn earned the first penalty, McKenzie Meehan converting for her 10th goal of the season. Then, Jenna Bike drew a foul, leading to freshman defender Samantha Hiatt converting a penalty kick, her first collegiate goal.
Muriel Tiernan then made the difference for the Hokies, heading in a Marie Johnston cross to tie the score in the 76th minute, then making a long run on a counter, finishing to the far post from 22 yards.
Meehan was injured late in the first overtime period, her status undetermined for the Eagles’ visit to Wake Forest Sunday.
