BC Eagle women finish with win

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Boston College women’s team snapped a four-game losing streak, taking a 2-1 extra time win over Syracuse in its final Atlantic Coast Conference match of the season at the Newton Campus Field Thursday night.

The Eagles (11-7-1 overall, 3-7-0 ACC) took the lead as Andrea O’Brien finished a Gaby Carreiro cross at the near post in the 17th minute. BC senior Hayley Dowd then hit the post off a 31st-minute free kick.

Syracuse (8-8-3, 1-7-2) tied the score as Eva Gordon capitalized on a defensive error in the 46th minute. Freshman Olivia Vaughn scored the deciding goal, her fifth of the season, off a Carreiro assist in the 94th minute.

In a pre-match ceremony, BC honored seniors Dowd, O’Brien, Rosie DiMartino, Meghan MacDonald and all-time leading scorer McKenzie Meehan (58 goals).
