COLLEGE BOOT SPOTLIGHT: MCKENZIE MEEHAN
Meet the Candidates, and Vote!
Boston College all-time leading scorer McKenzie Meehan is one of three nominees for the New England Soccer News women’s college player of the year and the Soccer News Net Women’s College Boot, recognizing the national player of the year.
Meehan, who concluded her collegiate career with BC records for goals (58) and game-winning goals (18) in 83 matches, was named to the All-ACC first team, along with teammate Hayley Dowd, for the second successive season, the NSCAA All-Southeast Region second team and the COSIDA All-Academic third team. Meehan totaled 12 goals (three game-winners) in 18 games and had a seven-match scoring streak, also totaling three goals in her final four games, but BC (11-7-1) failed to qualify for the conference tournament.
Meehan set an Eagle single-season record with 20 goals in 2013 and scored a CONCACAF U-20 World Cup Qualifying best six goals (tied with Mexico’s Tanya Samarzich) for the U.S. before an Achilles tendon injury kept her out of the FIFA U-20 Women’s Championship and caused her to miss the 2014 season. Meehan returned to score 17 goals in 20 games as a redshirt junior in 2015, concluding the season with a five-game scoring streak and being named All-ACC and NSCAA Southeast Region first team and NSCAA third team All-America.
Meehan was named the New England Soccer News Player of the Week for the weeks ending Aug. 28 and Sept. 5 and 12.
Fan voting accounts for 40% of the total toward selection of the Soccer News Net College Boot, and the winner of the popular voting receives the Soccer News Net Supporters’ Choice award.
