BU Terrier women take second successive win
The Boston University women’s team earned its second successive shutout victory, a 1-0 win over Colgate, in a Patriot League match at Nickerson Field Wednesday night.
Jesse Shreck finished a feed from the end line from Dorrie Varley-Barrett in the 15th minute as the Terriers (2-10-0, overall, 2-0-0 PL) improved to 6-0-1 all-time against the Red Raiders (4-4-2, 2-1-0).
“We haven’t ever been a team that relies on one player and I think that is what has made us dangerous in the end,” BU coach Nancy Feldman said. “What I loved about that goal is that we created it with this wide combination and had an awesome finish, but it’s something that we have been working on, getting combination play and being able to play out defenders with that.
“Tonight, we struggled at times, organizationally. We would bend a little bit but didn’t break, which is a good sign. It’s a sign of maturity, of composure under pressure.
“You’ve got that win in your pocket but you just move on because the next one you face is just as important as the last one you won because the next one you face, you’ll either be below them or above them. They’re kind of one game playoffs, that’s how we look at it.
“It’s a quick turnaround, we’re back to work tomorrow to prepare for Loyola and we have to go down there and prove that we can win a conference game on the road. That’s every bit as important as tonight’s win.”
