EIGHT FOR TERRIERS
BU women knock off Black Knights
The Boston University Terriers women’s team upped its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 3-1 win over Army West Point in a Patriot League match at Nickerson Field Saturday.
The Terriers (7-10-1 overall, 7-1-0 PL) earned a bye in the conference tournament, taking the lead on Erica Kosienski’s 51st-minute goal off a Chelsea Churchill feed. Kelly Park hit the crossbar, then scored in the 61st and 63rd minutes. The Black Knights (4-10-2, 2-4-2) cut the deficit on Samantha Sullenger’s 84th-minute goal.
"Hannah Ciolek and Bridget Conway have grown into being core contributors this season and maybe they started off like everybody, not quite experienced, but they caught up fast and we're going to need them to make that one big save to tip the game,” BU coach Nancy Feldman said. “We needed to come out in the second half how we ended the first, keeping our foot on the gas, being really aggressive and winning territory. I thought a key part of the game was our territorial advantage. When you start continuing to play in their half of the field, it wears the other team down.
"Kelly Park has a really healthy confidence in her ability and she's smart. She's a smart kid on the soccer field and she's coachable. Every time you give her a piece of information, she applies it, and that's not easy to do when you're a young player because you have a lot coming at you."
