HANOVER, N.H. -- The Dartmouth men’s team defending remained strong, but the Big Green fell to Hartford, 1-0, in a non-conference match at Burnham Field Wednesday night.
The Big Green (1-2-3), which went with Henry Stusnick in goal in his first collegiate start, held the opponent to one goal for the sixth successive time this season.
The Hawks (3-3-1) squandered an early chance as Friis Mads sent a penalty kick over the goal. Hartford took the lead as Andri Jonasson finished the rebound of a Stusnick save in the 35th minute.
The Big Green had a chance early in the second half as Justin Donawa’s shot was saved off a breakaway. Then, Ricardo Gomez stopped a Hartford shot with the net open. In the 76th minute, the Big Green took three of its eight corner kicks.
“I think overall we felt good about portions of the game tonight,” Dartmouth coach Chad Riley said. “Credit to Hartford, they capitalized on a couple of mistakes. I think we created some good chances in the first half, but I think we could have made their keeper work a little harder with what we had.
“When you have eight corners you want to try to get a goal on one of them. I think we had good delivery and had good chances. It’s just something that we will continue to work on and improve.”
