Dartmouth women glide past Gaels

HANOVER, N.H. -- The Dartmouth women’s team remained unbeaten, defeating Iona, 3-0, at Burnham Field Sunday.

Dartmouth (2-0-0) outshot the Gaels (0-4-0), 18-5, taking eight shots in the first half.

“I really liked how we played the first half and kept them under a lot of pressure,” Big Green coach Ron Rainey said. “We didn’t give up any corner kicks and only gave up two shots. In the second half we talked about getting that third goal and to score within eight minutes of the start of the second half, it was nice to see. We realized we have to keep progressing in all areas, but it was nice to see the transition in the second game in three days.”

Freshman Charlotte Esty scored after a goalkeeping bobble, then Meredith Gurnee converted off a Brittany Champagne feed and Holly Patterson scored the final goal.

“When our possession was good and we kept the ball in play, but away from the goalkeeper in the second half it generated some nice chances and crosses,” Rainey said. “To Iona’s credit they had a couple of good restarts that we had to deal with.”
