Dartmouth women spin Gardner Webb

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- Freshmen Charlotte Esty and Zoe Enright scored as the Dartmouth women’s team defeated Gardner Webb, 2-0, in the Deacon Challenge Tournament Sunday.

Esty scored off a Meredith Gurnee cross in the 61st minute, her second goal of the season. Zoe Enright converted a Gia Parker cross in the 81st minute. Gardner-Webb is 1-3-3.

“I thought the team was excellent today,” Big Green (3-1) coach Ron Rainey said. “I’m really proud of how we played because we stuck to a game plan of keeping possession in front of their defenders to place some balls in behind the defense. I think our team did an awesome job of doing that because it created a lot of chances in the first half and put them on their heels.

“They’re competing, working hard and having fun. I think the upper classmen are giving them a lot of confidence to play hard and to be successful on the field. Those are things we’re excited about and now the challenge is to come back with some good recovery and repetitions in practice this week as we head into next weekend’s games.”
