Big Green men gain tie with Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The Dartmouth men’s team held Vermont to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference match Saturday.

A minute after Vermont’s Loftur Eriksson missed a penalty kick, the Big Green (1-2-4) took the lead as Jonathan Nierenberg headed in an Emmanuel Arteaga centering pass for his first goal of the season in the 28th minute. The Catamounts (8-1-1) tied the score on Stefan Lamanna’s 68th-minute goal.

Big Green senior James Hickok made two saves and Dartmouth had two shots on goal.

“Firstly, I am very proud of our entire group,” Dartmouth coach Chad Riley said. “It has been a heavy week for us and they showed a lot of fight for one another today. I wouldn’t say it was our best day, but I was happy of the effort and the attitude our team showed throughout the game. Any time you feel you haven’t played your best, you must credit your opponent. I can see why Vermont has only dropped one game this year, they are a good team and have a lot of potential.

“Overall you always feel you want more out of a game, but I am proud of our group. This early season schedule has toughened us up nicely for the Ivy League and we will be ready for the next challenge in a week’s time.”
