Big Green women bested by Bears

HANOVER, N.H. -- The Dartmouth women’s team’s three-game winning streak was snapped as the Big Green fell, 1-0, to Brown in both teams’ Ivy League opener at Burnham Field Sunday.

The Big Green (6-3-0 overall, 0-1-0 Ivy) held off the Bears (5-1-3, 1-0-0) thanks to the defending of Alyssa Neuberger and goalkeeper Casey Cousineau until Kate Maher’s 44th-minute goal.

“We’ve played nine games and I want to say this is either the fifth or sixth 1-0 game,” Big Green coach Ron Rainey said. “I think we created some nice chances and limited their chances in the second half. A lot of these Ivy League games are going to be decided by one goal. A lot of times scoring that first goal is huge. I like how we battled back in the second half to try to tie the score. I think there’s a lot of nice things that we can work off of from today.”
