SNUFFING THEM OUT
Dartmouth women halt River Hawks
LOWELL, Mass. -- Senior captain Holly Patterson scored twice as the Dartmouth women’s team snapped a six-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over UMass Lowell in a non-conference match Tuesday.
The Big Green (7-6-2) took the lead as Patterson finished into the top right corner of the goal off a Meredith Gurnee assist in the 19th minute. The River Hawks (5-10-2) equalized on Courtney Coleman’s second goal of the season in the 57th minute. In the 78th minute, Patterson converted from the top of the penalty area, her fourth goal of the season.
“I’m very proud of how the team played and how hard we worked tonight,” Big Green coach Ron Rainey said. “Holly took two great shots and we’re proud of her for doing that and leading as a captain in that way. I’m glad we got this result and hopefully it gives us some confidence as we head over to Cornell.
“I thought in the first half we did a really good job of not allowing chances and not allowing them to get into a rhythm. They took some chances and got a little more possession in the second half and it forced us to take some things away from them. I also felt that Lindsey Knutson did a very nice job snuffing out a lot of attacks, as they threw a ton of numbers forward.”
