Big Green men handle Huskies

BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Wyatt Omsberg and Jonathan Nierenberg scored first-half goals as the Dartmouth men’s team took a 2-0 victory over Northeastern in a non-conference match Tuesday night.

The Big Green (6-4-5), coming off a loss to Harvard, resumes Ivy League play at Cornell at 5 p.m. Saturday. Dartmouth controlled possession in the opening half against the Huskies (6-11-0), guided by former Big Green assistant coach Chris Gbandi.

“I am very proud of the team, it is always important to respond after a defeat, and I thought we had a solid performance against a good Northeastern team,” Dartmouth coach Chad Riley said. “Coach Gbandi has done a great job with his team, and this was a very tough game. Our performances have been very good over the last few weeks and now we need to continue focus on taking care of the details in our preparation.”

Senior James Hickok (six saves) earned his fourth shutout of the season. In the 16th minute, Omsberg scored his third goal of the season off a Justin Donawa corner kick. In the 31st minute, Nierenberg added his third goal of the season.
