COLOR THEM GONE
Dartmouth Big Green eliminated by Orange
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Dartmouth’s four-match winning streak was snapped as the Big Green fell, 3-0, to eighth-seeded Syracuse in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Championship Sunday.
The Big Green (9-5-5) surrendered two first-half goals in blowing, snowy conditions as was outshot, 13-7.
“Credit to Syracuse, we knew they were going to be a good team,” Dartmouth coach Chad Riley said. “They figured out a way to get goals and good luck to them moving on.
“Any time you’re not sure about the field it takes a lot of the midfield stuff out. It’s a question of how much time can you spend in your attacking third and how little time can you let them spend in your defensive third. There won’t be as many combinations in the middle and you’ll take more of a direct route to the goal.”
In the seventh minute, SU (12-3-4) leading scorer Chris Nanco scored his seventh goal of the season, beating senior James Hickok (five saves) to his left. Dartmouth countered with a header by Eduvie Ikoba that was saved, then Justin Donawa shot that just wide. In the 23rd minute, Sergio Camargo scored the first of his two goals on a pass from Johannes Pieles. After halftime, Donawa had opportunities in the opening minutes. In the 59th minute, Camargo beat Hickok near post.
