Crusader women blanked by Black Bears

ORONO, Maine -- The Holy Cross Crusaders womenís team generated attacking opportunities but failed to finish in taking a 3-0 loss to Maine in a non-conference match at Mahaney Diamond Thursday night.

Bosnia and Herzegovina international Andj Seslija led the Crusaders (1-2-0) with three shots on net.

Maine (3-0-0) took the lead in the 34th minute as Kaitlyn Ball headed in a cross. Holy Cross had an opportunity with a corner kick three minutes later, but a header by senior forward Christina Napolitano went just wide.

Nicole Bailey (45th minute) and Theresa Gosch (57th) also scored.

Seslija and freshman midfielder Kathleen Rizzo registered shots on net in the second half. Holy Cross freshman Caroline Cashion made six saves. Annalena Kriebisch stopped seven shots for Maine, which outshot the Crusaders, 15-14.
