Crusader men shut out Siena

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Holy Cross men’s team took a 5-0 win over Siena at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium Tuesday night as the Crusaders matched their best start to a season since 2007.

The Crusaders (2-1-0) took a 4-0 halftime lead on goals by junior Eric Dixon (26th minute), senior Matt Villano (30th), junior Arno Rupp (37th) and sophomore R.J. Place (39th). Freshman Antonio Terceros-Downey added an 82nd-minute goal.

“Tonight was a great win,” Holy Cross coach Marco Koolman said. “You know on a rainy night the ball can bounce different ways and we put ourselves in a good position to take advantage of that. Tonight we emphasized the importance of character and discipline, and we were able to execute the game plan. We can take the good from this game and talk about what we need to do better in order to face New Hampshire on Friday.”
