Crusader men best Bobcats

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Arno Rupp’s 89th-minute penalty kick gave the Holy Cross Crusaders men’s team a 2-1 win over Quinnipiac at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium Saturday night.

Matt Villano opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season, finishing an Eric Dixon free kick in the 36th minute. James Doig’s long-distance shot past Henry Stutz tied the score in the 38th minute.

The Crusaders (4-2-0) earned a 68th-minute penalty kick following a handling call, Yuji Callahan missing the penalty kick. Rupp scored his second goal of the season, his penalty kick deflecting in off Chrysostomos Iakovidis.

The Crusaders outshot the Bobcats (3-4-0), 14-9.

“I’ve got to give our team credit,” Holy Cross coach Marco Koolman said. “We just keep going and going. The players keep working and they keep sticking together. Arno did very well to put the ball in the back of the net on the penalty kick. I think we needed a little bit more composure in the second half, but again, that’s another thing we learned and we got to work on it. But this was a great win and I look forward to keeping our momentum going.”
