HOLY CROSS CRUSADERS

PREPARED FOR PATRIOT LEAGUE
Crusader men halted by Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Holy Cross Crusaders men’s team surrendered two second-half goals to Shaquille Saunchez in falling, 3-1, to Sacred Heart in a non-conference match Wednesday.

The Pioneers (2-4-1) took the lead on a 27th-minute Ermir Celaji goal from close range. The Crusaders (4-3-0) tied the score as junior Arno Rupp headed from 10 yards off a pass fro Yuji Callahan.

Sacred Heart broke the deadlock on a close-in Saunchez finish in the 62nd minute. Saunchez then scored on a 90th-minute breakaway.

“We did not match their intensity and they played better than us today,” Holy Cross coach Marco Koolman said. “At times we did play well but we were unable to take advantage of our chances and find the back of the net when we needed to. With Patriot League play starting on Saturday, I think we are prepared because of our non-conference games. Patriot League play will be tough but we are ready.”
