Holy Cross women downed by Brown

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Holy Cross women’s team rallied late in falling, 3-2, to Brown in a non-conference match at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium Tuesday night.

The Crusaders (2-9-2) outshot the Bears (7-2-3), 20-11. Brown took the lead as Carly Gould scored off a lead pass from Abby Carchio in the ninth minute. Andj Seslija extended her scoring streak to three consecutive games with a header off a Carly Flahive corner for her sixth goal of the season, tying the score in the 32nd minute. The Bears took a 2-1 halftime lead as Katy Schmidt headed in a Gould cross in the 41st minute.

Celia Story finished a Carchio pass to give Brown a 3-1 lead in the 64th minute. Defender Lucy Acuña scored for the second successive match, her deflected shot cutting the Crusaders’ deficit in the 66th minute.

"We showed a great attacking side to our game tonight, but we were disappointed we couldn't find the back of the net more often with our chances," HC coach Casey Brown said. "Moving forward we need to be in the driver's seat during games. We know we are capable of that and we will tighten up our game to make sure that happens."
