Holy Cross men squander lead against Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. -- The Holy Cross men’s team’s winless streak stretched to seven games as the Crusaders held Lafayette to a 1-1 draw in a Patriot League match Saturday night.

Senior forward Matt Villano scored his sixth goal of the season to give Holy Cross (5-7-3 overall, 1-2-3 PL) the lead in the sixth minute. Ryan Gonçalves finished an 83rd-minute cross for the Leopards (6-7-2, 2-3-1).

“The conditions were really tough today as it was extremely windy,” BC coach Marco Koolman said. “But we were able to play really well in the first half despite that. I think in the second half, we worked hard but let up a late goal. In overtime we had a lot of chances but were unable to find the back of the net.”
