Northeastern women clipped by UConn
STORRS, Conn. -- The Northeastern Huskies women's team, playing its first game under coach Ashley Phillips, lost, 1-0, to No. 15 Connecticut in both teamsí season-opener at Morrone Stadium Friday night.
Sophomore Nathalie Nidetch made a career-high 10 saves, seven in the first half, as UConn held an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Nidetch made several impressive plays, including a double save midway through the first half to deny Maddie Damm on a diving parry, then kicking away the follow by Rachel Hill.
In the 32nd minute, Stephanie Ribeiro scored, pounding on a long goal kick and chipped over a charging Nidetch.
Redshirt freshman Lizzie George and freshmen Emily Evangelista, Olivia Ware and Kerri Zerfoss, who started at center back, made their Northeastern debuts.
Nidetch surpassed her previous best of six stops set against James Madison Oct. 9, 2015. Sophomore Valentina Soares Gache had three attempts for Northeastern.
