Northeastern held to draw by URI
BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Northeastern Huskies women’s team produced quality chances but failed to score for the second successive game in playing to a 0-0 tie with Rhode Island at Parsons Field Sunday night.
The Huskies (0-1-1) held a 28-14 shots edge over the Rams (0-1-1).
Sophomore Nathalie Nidetch made seven saves en route to her second career shutout. Nidetch gave a strong performance in the Huskies’ 1-0 loss to UConn in the season-opener Friday.
The Huskies controlled possession and set the tone.
In the 79th minute, redshirt freshman Lizzie George came close when she flicked a shot over Katie Nickels, the ball cleared off the line.
Deep into the second overtime period, Northeastern junior Kayla Cappuzzo floated a cross to senior Breeana Koemans for a bicycle kick that was saved by Nickels.
Northeastern held a 20-9 shots advantage in the first half. Junior Hannah Lopiccolo had five attempts. Cappuzzo, George and Koemans produced four attempts on goal. Eleven Huskies attempted at least one shot. Freshmen Emily Evangelista, Olivia Ware and Kerri Zerfoss started for the Huskies.
NU played to its first scoreless draw since a game at Elon on Sept. 25.
