Northeastern men squander lead against River Hawks
BROOKLINE, Mass. -- The Northeastern Huskies menís team surrendered a second-half tie-breaking goal in falling, 2-1, to UMass Lowell in both teamís season-opener at Parsons Field Friday.
Daniel Arvidsson's 31st-minute header past Austin Kroll off a cross from the left by Christian McKenna gave Northeastern the lead in coach Chris Gbandiís debut.
The River Hawks leveled the score in the 32nd minute as Ben Waithe beat Jonathan Thuresson, who saved eight shots, at the near post off a corner kick had been touched on by Ivan Blaskic, the play set up after Thuresson had punched a Ivan Abramovic laser over the bar.
Wuilito Fernandes broke the deadlock with a 15-yarder off an Abramovic feed in the 69th minute.
