Northeastern women tripped by Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Northeastern women’s team stayed even for most of the match with No. 16 Texas Tech before falling, 2-0, in a non-conference game delayed for two hours because of lightning at the John Walker Complex Sunday night.
Sophomore Nathalie Nidetch made eight saves for Northeastern (1-2-1). Texas Tech (3-0-1) scored its goals goals in a 16-minute span in the second half.
Northeastern produced a strong first half, senior Nicole Wilkins’ free kick from the top of the penalty area beating Lauren Watson and striking the left post in the 44th minute.
Early in the second half, Texas Tech’s Natalie Schmutz hit the same post with a shot from the right wing.
TTU scored as Nidetch tipped Jordie Harr’s chip off the bar, Schmutz finishing the rebound into an open net.
In the 76th minute, Gabbie Puente blasted a shot over Nidetch from the left corner of the penalty area.
Northeastern, playing for the first time in Texas, was outshot, 20-8. Senior Skylar LeBlanc and redshirt freshman Lizzie George made their first starts of the season.
