WOMEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Northeastern Huskies' forward Kayla Cappuzzo
The Northeastern Huskies have been among the most effective teams in New England this month, establishing themselves as number two, behind Boston College, and challenging the Eagles in a head-to-head battle recently.
The Huskies, coached by former Boston Breakers goalkeeper Ashley Phillips, have kicked the offense into gear, scoring 15 goals in the last six games. And junior forward Kayla Cappuzzo, the New England Soccer News Women's Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 19, has been a major factor in leading the way.
Cappuzzo’s 29th-minute goal, the 12th of collegiate career, gave the Huskies the lead in a 2-0 victory over Boston University Thursday, then she set up Breeana Koemans and Hannah Lopiccolo for scores in a 2-1 victory over New Hampshire Sunday.
Cappuzzo, a Long Islander (Merrick, N.Y.) who played for the U.S. U18 national team, has played a strong part in the Huskies’ success in three seasons – in games Cappuzzo has scored in, NU has an 11-0-0 record.
