Northeastern women edged by Delaware
NEWARK, Del. -- The Northeastern women's team fell, 2-1, in extra time to Delaware in both teamsí Colonial Athletic Asssociation opener at Grant Stadium Friday night.
Midfielder Mikala Kinís 54th-minute goal off a Nikki Adams feed gave the Blue Hens (2-8-0 overall, 1-0-0 CAA) the lead. Northeastern (5-5-1, 0-1-0 CAA) tied the score as junior midfielder Hannah Lopiccolo shot from outside the penalty area past Kailyn Rekos for her 15th career goal, the score set up as Kayla Cappuzzo sped up the left wing in the 65th minute.
The Huskies threatened in overtime, a shot by freshman forward Olivia Ware just missing right.
In the 92nd minute, forward Madison Brosler raced past the defense to score the deciding goal.
