NU Husky women stymie Seahawks
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Goals from sophomore Hannah Rosenblatt and junior Kayla Cappuzzo propelled a short-handed Northeastern women's team to a 2-1 win over UNC Wilmington in a Colonial Athletic Association match at the UNCW Soccer Stadium Friday night.
The Huskies (7-5-1 overall, 2-1-0 CAA) moved into a four-way tie for first place with Delaware, Drexel and Towson, taking the lead on a 20th-minute Hannah Rosenblatt score, her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
UNCW (6-3-2, 0-1-1 CAA) equalized as Moa Jarl finished a Brittany Cline corner kick with three seconds on the clock.
In the 48th minute, NU senior Skylar LeBlanc was red-carded. But the Huskies broke the deadlock on Kayla Cappuzzo’s fourth goal of the season in the 52nd minute, then held off the Seahawks as sophomore Nathalie Nidetch made seven saves. Cappuzzo and Rosenblatt have scored three game-winning goals this season the NU has a 12-0-0 all-time record when Cappuzzo scores.
