Northeastern women take over CAA lead
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Northeastern women's team snapped the College of Charleston’s nine-game unbeaten run, taking over first place in the Colonial Athletic Association with a 2-1 victory at Patriots Point Sunday.
Senior Mackenzie Dowd (seventh minute) and junior Carly Wilhelm (56th) scored for the Huskies (8-5-1 overall, 3-1-0 CAA), who won twice on a weekend road trip. College of Charleston (8-4-1, 1-1-1 CAA) cut the deficit as Rio Speller-Drews headed in a Laura Ortega corner kick in the 78th minute.
Dowd converted a Hannah Lopiccolo corner kick for her first goal of the season and 15th of her career and Wilhelm scored her second goal of the season.
