Providence women falter in second half against BC
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women’s team squandered a first-half lead in falling, 4-1, to the Boston College Eagles in both teams’ season-opener at Chapey Field Friday night.
The Friars held a 1-0 halftime lead as Kristyn Shea saved an 18th-minute Hayley Dowd penalty kick, then graduate student Kathryn Hiller headed in a Kayla Steeves corner kick in the 23rd minute.
At the half, the Eagles had 11 shots, three by McKenzie Meehan, and six corner kicks.
In the 59th minute, Jenna Bike scored off a Gaby Carreiro assist. Kayla Jennings converted off a Carreiro pass in the 67th minute and scored again in the 73rd minute. In the 85th minute, Dowd scored.
Shea recorded five saves. Boston College’s Alexis Bryant did not record a save.
