Friar women snap losing streak against BU
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Junior Juliana Pellegrini scored the first two goals of her collegiate career as the Providence College women's team defeated Boston University, 2-0, at Chapey Field Thursday night.
PC (2-2-1) won its second successive game by shutout and snapped a five-game losing streak against the Terriers (0-5-0).
BU had its best chance of the game as Jesse Shreck hit the crossbar with a 20th-minute free kick from 30 yards. Less than a minute later, Alivya Wimmerís shot was saved by Kristyn Shea.
The Friars had their best chance of the half in the 45th minute on Hannah Wearís free kick, BU failing to clear, but the play blown dead with the ball near the right post.
The Friars took the lead in the 65th minute as junior Pellegrini redirected a feed from sophomore Casey Estey from five yards at the left post.
Pellegrini and Estey combined again in the 83rd minute, Estey slipping a pass into the penalty area for Pellegrini to finish.
Shea made five saves in earning her 16th career shutout. Hannah Ciolek made one save for the Terriers.
