Friar women down Brown, extend streaks
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women’s team took a 1-0 win over Brown Thursday night, the Friars extending streaks to four consecutive wins and 360 shutout minutes.
The Friars (4-2-1) threatened on a fourth-minute header over the bar by junior Juliana Pellegrini, outshooting the Bears (2-1-1), 7-1, in the opening half. In the 67th minute, Casey Estey went in alone to score her first goal of the season off a long clearance from sophomore Kayla Steeves, headed on by Pellegrini.
“Always a tough game versus Brown and tonight was no different,” PC coach Sam Lopes said. “Brown is under a new era and it will be very exciting going forward to play them annually. Kia (McNeill) is going to do a great job and I wish her all the best. Tonight we played well in many aspects and was pleased with the play in both boxes. As a coach, you always want to be better but we did enough in both boxes to earn a difficult result which I felt was important for the game.”
