MEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Providence Friars midfielder Danny Griffin
The Providence Friars have recovered from a slow start to the season with four consecutive victories. And freshman midfielder Danny Griffin has been playing a key role in the Friar revival, scoring the game-winning goal in three successive matches.
Griffin, the New England Soccer News Men's Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 12, converted in wins over SMU (1-0) and Georgia State (2-0) as Providence won the Capital City Classic, improving its record to 4-2-0. Griffin also scored the decider in a 1-0 victory over Bryant last week.
Griffin combined with sophomore Brendan Constantine, a former teammate with Oakwood Soccer Club in Connecticut, to spark the Providence attack. Griffin sent a shot in off the left post in the 77th minute against the Mustangs and finished for the opening goal in the 47th minute against George State.
