Friar women recover, defeat Blue Devils
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Sophomore Casey Estey had a goal and assist as the Providence women’s team defeated the Central Connecticut Blue Devils, 3-1, Thursday.
The Friars (5-3-1) took the lead on graduate student Kathryn Hiller’s 17th-minute goal, her fourth of the season, off a Rachel Ugolik assist. The Blue Devils (2-7-0) equalized on freshman Anya Bornstein’s first collegiate goal in the 19th minute.
Providence broke the deadlock as Estey found senior Jill Clapp, who scored her second goal of the season in the 31st minute. Estey scored her second goal of the season in the 43rd minute.
“Very proud for a few reasons,” PC coach Sam Lopes said. “The response from Harvard, the positive reaction after conceding, and how well we played in all aspects of the game. It was a total team effort, many players stepped up and tonight more importantly, we grew in more ways than just becoming a better soccer team.”
