PC Friar women pelt UMass
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rachel Ugolik scored twice as the Providence women's team defeated the University of Massachusetts, 3-0, in a non-conference match Sunday.
Ugolik sent a shot over Cassidy Babin in the 31st minute, then finished a 44th-minute rebound for her fourth goal of the season. Graduate student Kathryn Hiller added a 57th-minute goal, her fifth of the season, and Kristyn Shea earned her 19th career shutout, tied with Caroline Haines for the Friar record.
The Friars (6-3-1) outshot UMass (2-4-1), 20-9.
"Good performance with a well deserved win and shutout,” PC coach Sam Lopes said. “We have enjoyed a rewarding non-conference slate of games where we learned a lot about ourselves and the potential of this team. Certainly, there are still many of the areas we can improve on, but we have to proud of our efforts to date. It's important we remain humble as we enter Big East play this week, because it's a new season. We need to maintain the daily motivation we've had and challenge ourselves to keep growing individually and collectively as a group daily."
