FRIARS ON FIRE
PC women knock off 'Nova
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The Providence Friars women’s team upped its unbeaten streak to six games, taking a 2-0 victory over the Villanova Wildcats in a Big East Conference match Thursday.
The Friars (9-3-2 overall, 3-0-1 conference), who have a 4-0-1 road record since Aug. 25, were outshot by the Wildcats (3-9-0, 1-2-0), 17-6.
Senior Hannah Wear headed in a Kayla Steeves corner kick in the third minute for her first goal of the season, and senior Rachel Ugolik scored in the 73rd minute.
“It was a game of two halves,” PC coach Sam Lopes said. “We played well in the first half but lost our way in the second. However, to still score in both halves and earn a shutout against a team that gave us everything they had in second half, speaks volumes about our team. It was an important road win that presented many challenges that we can learn from and help us be better for our next match but really proud of the team’s effort today.”
