Friar men knock off 'Nova


PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College menís team improved its winning streak to three games with a 3-1 victory over Villanova in a Big East Conference match Saturday.

The Friars (7-5-0 overall, 2-2-0 conference) took the lead in the third minute as Julian Gressel went in alone on Will Steiner off a Nick Sailor pass to score the first of two goals.

In the 54th minute, freshman Alex DaCosta upped the lead to 2-0 with his first collegiate goal, off a Gressel assist. Padraic McCullaugh cut the Wildcats (6-5-1, 2-2-0) deficit with a 77th-minute goal, assisted by Kian Zapata.

Gressel scored his eighth goal of the season on an 85th-minute penalty kick.
