Friar women edged by Golden Eagles

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence womenís team had its six-match unbeaten streak snapped, falling, 2-0, Marquette in a Big East Conference match Sunday.

The Friars (9-4-2 overall, 3-1-1 conference) equaled the Golden Eagles (8-5-2, 4-1-0) in shots, 8-8.

Marquette took the lead in the 11th minute as senior Liz Bartels finished past senior Kristyn Shea. Junior Juliana Pellegrini had a chance to equalize, firing just off a 21st-minute Kristin Hayman corner kick. Marquette added a 79th-miute goal as Madison Dunker scored on a 35-yard free kick.
