MEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Providence Friars' Julian Gressel
Julian Gressel played as a right back in Germanyís Regionalliga, but with Providence College he is excelling as an attacking midfielder. Gressel, a senior, leads the Friars with eight goals in 12 games this season and has a three-match scoring streak after leading the way in wins over Xavier, Brown and Villanova.
Gressel, the New England Soccer News Men's Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 10, converted on the only extra time shot in a 1-0 win over the Bears, then was involved in all the Friarsí goals in a 3-1 victory over ĎNova.
Last season, Gressel took on a playmaking role, totaling 11 assists. This season, Gressel has compensated for the absence of Mac Steeves (limited to two games by injury), as he has contributed directly to 10 of the teamís 14 goals.
