Friar women blank Pirates
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Madison Doherty’s 38th-minute goal gave the Providence College women’s team a 1-0 win over Seton Hall in a Big East Conference match Sunday.
The Friars (11-5-2 overall, 5-2-1 conference) took a 17-8 shots edge over the Pirates (5-10-1, 1-7-0). The Friars threatened on first-half shots by Jill Clapp, Juliana Pellegrini and Rachel Ugolik. Doherty scored her first goal of the season off a Hannah Wear assist. Kristyn Shea (four saves) earned her 25th career save.
"Extremely happy for the team and our seniors,” PC coach Sam Lopes said. “It's a group that is giving everything to the program while developing into extraordinary women. I am also pleased with the entire team. They worked hard defensively, earned another shutout and had good ideas on attack. We were deserving of a couple more goals but we lacked some composure."
