MEN'S COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Providence Friars midfielder Julian Gressel
Midfielder Julian Gressel has led the way as the Providence Friars have launched a late-season run that has them in Big East Conference title contention. The Friars won their fifth successive game, taking a 2-1 decision over DePaul as Gressel, the New England Soccer News Men's Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 24, provided a corner kick for Liam Wilson to finish in the first half, then scored the decider on a 51st-minute penalty kick.
Gressel, 22, has scored nine goals, tied for second in the conference with Riggs Lennon (Creighton) behind David Goldsmith (Butler), who has 10. Gressel, a senior from Neustadt an der Aisch in Bavaria, played for Regionaliga teams before enrolling at Providence in 2013.
