Providence women fall to Red Storm

QUEENS, N.Y. Ė The Providence womenís team closed the regular season with a 2-1 loss to St. Johnís in a preview of the Big East Conference tournament at Belson Stadium Friday night.

The fifth-place Friars (11-6-2 overall, 5-3-1 conference) and fourth-place Red Storm (10-3-5, 5-2-2) will be rematched at Belson Stadium at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Johnís took the lead on redshirt junior Miranda Haraughtyís 15th-minute goal. Kayla Steeves equalized with a 25-yarder past Diana Poulin off the underside of the cross bar in the 53rd minute, her first career goal. Christina Bellero broke the deadlock with her third goal of the season in the 72nd minute, scoring past Kristyn Shea (three saves).
