Providence men upset Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Providence College menís team clinched a bye in the Big East Conference tournament with a 1-0 win over No. 18-ranked Creighton at Morrison Stadium Saturday night.
The Friars (11-5-0 overall, 6-2-0 conference), who can win the Big East regular-season title with at least a tie at St. Johnís Thursday, defeated a ranked opponent for the first time since a 3-0 win over Xavier Oct. 10, 2015. Creighton (8-5-3, 5-3-0) fell to 6-1-2 at home.
Providence upped its winning streak to seven games as Julian Gressel scored his 10th goal of the season in the 34th minute, the play set up by a Brendan Constantine interception. The Friarsí Brendan Reardon hit the crossbar in the 52nd minute and redshirt sophomore Colin Miller (three saves) earned his sixth shutout victory.
