Providence Friar men Big East champions
QUEENS, N.Y. -- Julian Gresselís 81st-minute goal gave the No. 25 Providence College menís team a 1-0 win over St. Johnís, the Friars capturing their first Big East Conference regular-season championship, at Belson Stadium Thursday night.
The Friars (12-5-0 overall, 7-2-0 conference), who improved their winning streak to eight games, will play host to a semifinal opponent Friday, Nov. 10.
Gressel had the Friarsí best chance in the opening half, his close-range header saved by Andrew Withers in the eighth minute. Gressel then converted off a John Hamilton deflection following a long throw-in from Steven Kilday, his 11th goal of the season and fifth game-winner. Colin Miller (five saves) improved his record to 11-0-0.
