Providence will visit North Carolina in quarterfinals

Providence will visit North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Menís Championship, tournament organizers announcer Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, the winner advancing to the College Cup in Houston Dec. 9-11.

The Friars (15-6-0) advanced with a 2-1 win over Creighton in the third round Saturday night. Julian Gressel scored his 15th goal of the season and assisted Danny Griffin on the deciding goal, upping his career assist total to 25, second on the all-time PC list to John Farrenís 30. The Tar Heels (13-3-3) blanked Syracuse, 1-0, Sunday.

The teams have met once previously, the Tar Heels taking a 2-0 victory over Providence, Ben Hunter scoring off assists from Dax McCarty and Michael Harrington in the first round of the 2005 NCAA tournament in Chapel Hill.
