UConn women clip Northeastern

STORRS, Conn. -- A first half goal from Stephanie Ribeiro made the difference as the UConn womenís team took a 1-0 win over Northeastern in both teamsí season-opener at Morrone Stadium Friday night.

UConn came out strong, outshooting Northeastern, 6-0. Junior Danielle Gottwik produced an early chance, missing just wide, and senior Rachel Hill hit the left post in the 10th minute.

Ribeiro scored in the 32nd minute. Junior Tanya Altrui lofted a pass for Ribeiro, who flicked on over Nathalie Nidetch.

Northeastern rallied in the second half but UConn outshot Northeastern, 23-10, getting 14 shots in the first half.

Senior Emily Armstrong finished with four saves for UConn.
