UConn women tally late to top Terriers

STORRS, Conn. -- Redshirt senior Stephanie Ribeiro scored in the 89th minute as the UConn women’s team took a 1-0 win over Boston University in a non-conference match Sunday.

Senior Emily Armstrong recorded three saves for the Huskies (2-0-0).

UConn outshot BU (0-2-0), 9-2, in the first half. Ribeiro had two chances in the first half. In the 17th minute, Ribeiro’s shot from the top of the penalty area was tipped over the bar by Bridget Conway. Late in the half, Ribeiro fired from the left, her shot going across the goal mouth and trickling past the right post.

UConn, anchored by defenders Toriana Patterson, Sabrina Toole and Heidi Druehl, allowed six shots, three on net.

In the 81st minute, the Huskies threatened as senior Rachel Hill broke away, but was taken down. Hill then set up Ribeiro to shoot from the top of the penalty area for the deciding score.
